Catherine's Yearly Festive Service of Carols Honours Unsung Heroes

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The large audience will enjoy a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Love and Generosity

The theme of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a message before the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians supported by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the former royal to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the trust, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
