An extensive 60-day voyage around the Land Down Under is being halted in the wake of the death of an older lady who was left behind by the ship on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the remote island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the excursion for a break. The liner left without her and came back later that day after the crew discovered the woman was unaccounted for.

A large-scale rescue mission found her body the following day.

Officials are examining the event, in coordination with police and the official investigator.

Head of the voyage organizer said that travelers and personnel on the ship were notified that the continuation of the voyage had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and previous technical problems".

In a statement, he further stated that guests would be provided a total repayment, and said the company was working "to organize the return journeys of the passengers via chartered flights".

Officials also published an updated statement, and said they had "delivered a order to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from getting on the liner.

The representative said that they would attend the vessel in the Australian city upon its return.

Timeline of Events

The liner first departed Cairns on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the time of the elderly woman's demise. Lizard Island was the first stop on the voyage.

Passengers on the vessel - who generally pay tens of thousands of dollars to participate in the voyage - were taken there for a shore visit with the choice of trekking or snorkelling.

Family Response

The offspring of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "stunned and distressed that the ship left the island after an planned tour without my mum".

Through her comments, she characterized her mum as an "active 80-year-old" who was a participant of a hiking organization.

"Based on limited facts we have been provided, it appears that there was a lapse of responsibility and ordinary reasoning," she mentioned.

She further stated that she hoped the examination would be able to identify what "the company should have performed that might have preserved Her existence".

"Based on information from the police that it was a very hot period, and she became unwell on the hill climb," she revealed.

"Officials suggested her to return, alone. Then the vessel left, apparently without performing a headcount.

"At some stage in that sequence, or not long after, she died, alone."

Operator Position

Through an announcement, the Head confirmed that the operator was "collaborating extensively with officials to aid their inquiry".

He mentioned that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had provided its complete assistance to the loved ones.

Shipping Sector Procedures

The liner caters for up to a hundred twenty travelers with nearly fifty crew, according to company data. It was specially constructed to reach remote areas of the Australian coastline and is fitted with "tenders" - compact vessels used to transport individuals on shore trips.

Events like this are rare, and liners have systems to document which individuals are boarding or disembarking, according to maritime specialists.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] aboard simply isn't an choice," one expert commented.

Cruise lines regard these processes with great importance and have "clever tech in place to avoid such occurrences from occurring," the expert continued.

"This seems to be probably a stunning - and sad - single occurrence."
