Energy infrastructure targeted in Ukraine
Ukraine's energy systems have come under increased attacks in recent weeks

Overnight, Russian aerial assaults have caused blackouts in multiple districts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

Nine people were wounded while inhabitants in eastern neighborhoods were left without electricity and encountered interruptions to water supplies, according to municipal leaders.

Meanwhile, a young boy was fatally injured in a separate Russian drone strike in the Zaporizhzhia area in the southeastern part, based on information from regional authorities.

Russian forces has intensified strikes on energy facilities over the last fortnight, while the country's government has requested "real steps" from allies to exert influence on Moscow.

"What is required is not symbolic gestures but firm measures - from the America, the EU and the Group of Seven - in providing defensive weapons and implementing sanctions," he wrote in a online statement.

Officials stated that 450 drones and several dozen missiles targeted energy facilities, characterizing such attacks as "cynical and calculated" and against "everything that sustains normal life" as temperatures become colder.

Energy officials said Moscow was "inflicting a massive strike" and technical staff were striving to restore power.

A wave of strikes hit energy infrastructure and civilian homes in the capital.

Multiple people injured in the assaults on the city have been transported for medical care, per statements from municipal representatives.

Area administrators said the city came under heavy assaults throughout the evening. A young boy died and multiple civilians were injured.

The attacks succeed nights of bombing campaigns in the area, sections of which remain under the control of Russian forces.

All of Ukraine is under warning for advanced weapon attacks, which are more difficult to detect.

Authorities told the media that Russia was purposely seeking to damage the national power system, with assaults already impacting gas facilities.

Officials stated technical personnel and authorities were bracing for further attacks.
